PORTRAY'D PRODUCTIONS is a North Carolina based independent production company dedicated to telling and celebrating black southern stories through an intersectional lense. Via independent films and serialized digital content, PORTRAY'D PRODUCTIONS is committed to revolutionary storytelling that highlights diversity in the south and modernizes the Afro-Southern narrative.

ANNA RAY, MFA
founder & creative producer
Anna Ray is a Wilmington, North Carolina based independent filmmaker. Hailing from Laurinburg, she has a deep-rooted passion for the art of storytelling and the North Carolina film industry. A former educator, she spent 2.5 years teaching English and North American Culture in public schools in Spain. While there, she produced two short films in Madrid, one of which, “Chueca”, a story documenting the life of trans sex workers, went on to have a successful international film festival run. Since relocating to Wilmington, she has worked on many projects filming in the area including, Hightown and Boys of Summer, and was the Programming Coordinator for the 26th and 27th Annual Cucalorus Film Festival. Anna holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Hispanic Studies from East Carolina University, and her Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Producing from the School of Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
